Goodwin Village Monash, ACT

‘One Sunny Morning 1, 2 and 3’

A set of three pieces to enliven and enrich the clubhouse in this retirement living village in Canberra. The space includes lounge, cafe, library and activities rooms and is frequented daily by many residents and guests.

I decided to create three ‘windows’ into the bush that take residents on a journey as though on a bushwalk. The scene is imagined but authentic, stitched together from places in local nature reserves which some residents may not have the mobility to visit any longer.

Each piece has it’s own colour story so there is something to suit any mood, any day and something to find every time you look. Native birds and kangaroos hide among the foliage for discovery.

There is also a journey from foreground to far-background, with the saplings across the foreground providing detail and interesting textures in themselves.

We launched the pieces in a catered event, during which I provided a short demonstration of technique and had residents have a go themselves, to really engage with the artworks and create a new one together as a group.
